Restore Healthcare Medical Group and Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) work together to support job seekers with disabilities. We utilized supported and customized employment to assist job seekers with the best solutions for meaningful long-term permanent employment.

What's the difference?

  • Customized Employment refers to an arrangement between a worker with a disability and employer that benefits both and that focuses on the strengths of the employee. Examples include adjusted schedules and work-from-home agreements. Supported employment and self-employment are forms of customized employment.

  • Supported Employment uses a variety of ongoing support services to help workers with the most significant disabilities maintain employment. Examples include having a co-worker pick up and drop off a fellow employee from the bus stop or creating a safe space in the workplace where an employee can go to take a needed break or de-stress.

 

Both customized and supported employment strategies enable employees with disabilities to contribute their abilities, ideas, and talents to the workforce while participating in a workplace setting with their co-workers.   Customized and supported employment strategies enable employers, in turn, to tap into the skills of workers who might not otherwise access employment through traditional means (i.e., a job search with an open application process).

When we talk about "transition," we're referring to the process of moving from middle school to high school and then from high school to college or adult life. Sometimes you'll hear people refer to that process as "secondary transition." Restore Healthcare Medical Group transition planning in school begins the year the student turns 14. Many teachers, students, and families begin planning even earlier to learn about the possibilities and coordinate supports and services. Strong supports and services lead students to better post-school outcomes.

Preparing for adult life means making decisions about getting more education or training, finding employment, living independently or with supports, and participating in the community. It may mean applying for health care coverage or other benefits through the Social Security Administration and Social Services Administration.

The career development services and support you need are unique to you. Restore Healthcare Medical Group's Work Readiness Program can connect you with the right mix of employment support services. 

 

BENEFITS COUNSELING / WORK INCENTIVES PLANNING 

Restore Healthcare Medical Group is a WIPA participant provider.  So, what is WIPA?  WIPA provides free benefits counseling to eligible Social Security and Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries who have a disability to help them make informed choices about work. WIPA is staffed by Community Work Incentive Coordinators (CWICs), including Restore Healthcare Medical Group, who provide in-depth counseling about working, earning more money and how working may affect your benefits.

 

Working with a WIPA Provider, can help you:

  • Understand the rules of specific Work Incentives and how they apply to you

  • Decide whether the Ticket to Work Program is right for you

  • Understand the potential benefits of employment as a person who receives disability benefits from Social Security and dispel the myths about working

  • Analyze how work and earnings may impact your Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), health care, and other public benefits

  • Understand the services provided by a State Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) agency or an Employment Network (EN), and how they might fit best with your needs
